Czerny: String Quartets Sheridan Ensemble. Listen on Apple Music. String Quartet in A Minor. 1. I. Allegro espressivo ma animato.
Carl Czerny, one of Vienna's most illustrious musicians, was Beethoven's student and devoted friend. Renowned today for his piano treatises, he was also a prolific composer in almost every genre, but it is the music for his own instrument that has aroused the most curiosity. The Grand Concerto in A minor, a work both serene and spirited, is historically important as one of the first romantic concertos ever written. Well these are piano concertos unlike anything you have ever heard and I own many obscure piano concertos especially from the Hyperion Forgotten Romantic piano collection (about 70 CDs). As an expert relative of his (now spelled Cherny) just informed me, virtually no one who is a great pianist learns piano technique without the scales and studies of Carl Czerny (visit his lovely mansion if you can in Vienna).
The Sheridan Ensemble's Anna Carewe (cello) and Oli Bott (vibraphone) play their own version of Eric Satie's "Première gnossienne" and Astor Piazzolla's "Lib.
Composer: Czerny, Carl.
Carl Czerny (German: ; 21 February 1791 – 9 August 1857) was an Austrian composer, teacher, and pianist of Czech origin whose vast musical production amounted to over a thousand works. His books of studies for the piano are still widely used in piano teaching. Carl Czerny was born in Vienna (Leopoldstadt) and was baptized in St. Leopold parish. His parents were of Czech origin; his mother was Moravian
127) was published by Diabelli around 1826. Scored for a standard piano quintet (Piano, 2 Violins, Viola, Cello), the composition is what the composer would have dubbed a "brilliant" piece, intended to show off the skills of the piano soloist in a concert setting.
