The Shining were an English rock supergroup formed in 2000. The band was composed of Duncan Baxter (vocals), Dan MacBean (guitar), Mark Heaney (drums), Simon Jones (bass), and Simon Tong (guitar, keyboards), the latter two both being members of The Verve. Their one and only LP, titled True Skies and produced by Youth, followed in September of the same year, issued by Zuma Recordings. The band split in 2003.

SHINING released their debut full-length studio album "I - Within Deep Dark Chambers" in 2000. They did already release the "Submit to Selfdestruction" EP ( limited to 300 hand-numbered copies) in 1998 though. SHININGs studio albums are numbered I, II, II and so forth. The latest studio offering at the time ( December 2009) is "VI - Klagopsalmer (2009)". SHININGs inclusion in the Prog Archives database was approved by the Progressive Metal Team. The album was a critical success, but was only a moderate commercial success, reaching No. 27 in the UK album chart that summer. The second single from the album, "Slide Away", topped the UK indie rock charts. During this period the band played a number of gigs with Oasis who, at the time, were relatively unknown  . Tong and Jones formed a group called The Shining, who released one album, True Skies, before disbanding in 2003. Jones went on to join the band of Irish musician Cathy Davey. Tong appeared as a live replacement for ex-guitarist Graham Coxon in Blur, and as additional guitarist for Gorillaz (both Jones and Tong played guitar for Demon Days Live).

True Skies" was produced by longtime Verve collaborator Youth and mixed by Tom Rothrock (Elliott Smith, Beck). Fans can view video footage and sample a number of tracks on the Shining's official Web site. Aside from the two .
