Fuck yeah sick note/watermelon. one of the first dnb records I bought and it still sounds fucking epic. Always thought it was called Watermelon as my copy is obviously labeled the wrong way around.

So thanks to some drunken confusion I own two copies of this - one of them is mislabelled as one states the super funky but slower tempo tune as Watermelon, the other as Sicknote... anyone else has this?

Yep it's been confusing us all for years. I think the steppier grotty one is watermelon

Yes, mine is mislabeled as well, with labels being on the opposite sides as they should have been. I think it was an issue with an early re press of this record... as i bought mine as a new copy at a store in about 2001 that came with a standard virus housebag, not the cool full artwork sleeve pictured here. btw the roller with the big band stabs is Sicknote, the one that sounds like a waiting room on an alien planet is watermelon. lol

Watermelon is on its own level of future funk. Untouchable, without any doubt. The vocal bassline, the weird pads, the clinical tight af drums. I can appreciate the flip for sure, the big band stabs are a nice touch. Great drums and all, but its just not the timeless monstrosity that watermelon is.
ARE
only Watermelon.

I still remember walking into my local record shop (Bitin back in Gravesend, UK) back in 99 and seeing a new delivery arrive, and a fresh full artwork copy of 'Watermelon' being pulled out. My face just lit up with joy as i had been after this since i had first heard it! This was one of the best feelings of going into a record shop and picking up a tune you were desperately after, the great memories of that era. Both tunes are absolutely amazing and showcase the talent these two dnb pioneers possessed from an early age. A must have record for any dnb fan

One of the best drum and bass 12 ever released
Brick my own
No exaggeration, this is as classic as it gets and this is a poster track for the 1999 era of non-cheesy, dark, cerebral drum & bass. Both tracks are different enough to add up to a varied proposition. "Sick Note" is a pure weed-injected wall tearer; and my favourite "Watermelon" is a totally fucked up, ganking track that just vomits shit all over your brain, with real twisted vibes, brilliant and generous arrangement, and perfect, dirty synths. AWWW YEEEEYUH!!!As with "Gas mask" / "Bacteria", I think there was confusion as to which tune was which due to printing fuck ups.

It's not very often that you get 2 wicked tracks that are just as good as each other on a 12" single. Both have very deep warping basslines accompanied with hard hitting drums. DJ Craze did a mind-blowing beat juggle with "Watermelon" in the DMC World Championships in 2000, which he won by a country mile, using the warping bassline to full effect.

watermelon sounds a bit pants! sick note is fat though
